Healing Guide

Your First Two Weeks

Each phase builds on the last. Keep it clean, keep it moist, and don't rush the process.

  1. 01

    First 2–4 hours

    Remove the bandage & wash

Approximately 2–4 hours after receiving your tattoo, remove the bandage and wash with lukewarm water and unscented soap.

  2. 02

    Day 1–2 onward

    Moisturize after each wash

Starting a day or two after your tattoo, use your artist's recommended lotion immediately after each washing and drying session. Your artist will let you know their preferred aftercare product.

  3. 03

    Daily

    Apply ointment lightly

Cover the tattoo with a thin coat of ointment — just enough to keep it moist. Do not over-medicate; if the ointment bubbles up or looks shiny, you're using too much. Blot off any excess with a paper towel five minutes after applying.

  4. 04

    Days 1–10

    Keep it moist

Apply lotion 1–2 times a day for the next 6–10 days. If the tattoo dries out too much, overscabbing can occur. Do not soak the tattoo in water or lotion.

  5. 05

    First few days

    Wear breathable fabric

If possible, wear only white cotton over the tattoo for the next few days.

  6. 06

    First 2 weeks

    Protect from the elements

Keep the tattoo out of the sun. No swimming (lakes or pools), tanning, sauna, or hot tubbing until it has healed properly.

  7. 07

    After healing

    Use sun protection

Once your tattoo has healed, apply sunblock (SPF 50) whenever it is exposed.

Think it might be infected?

Come see us before visiting a doctor. Often what looks like an infection is just irritation or heavy scabbing — we can confirm for your peace of mind.

Products to avoid

Never use Polysporin, Neosporin, or Vaseline on your tattoo unless your artist directs you to.
