Choosing Your First Tattoo

August 20, 2025

Back to Blog

Getting your first tattoo is exciting — and a little nerve-wracking. At Wild Ink, we want every first-timer to feel informed and comfortable before they sit down in the chair.

Start with something meaningful

Your first tattoo does not need to be your biggest or most elaborate piece. Many clients start with something small and personal: a symbol, a date, a word, or a simple design that holds meaning. Think about what you want to carry with you long-term.

Consider placement carefully

Some areas hurt more than others, and some spots are easier to conceal for work or family events. Wrist, forearm, shoulder, and upper back are popular first-tattoo placements because they offer a good balance of visibility and comfort.

Do your research

Look at artist portfolios before booking. Every Wild Ink location has talented artists with distinct styles — from bold traditional work to fine line and black and grey. Browse our staff pages and find someone whose work speaks to you.

Ask questions

There are no silly questions. Our team is happy to walk you through the process, explain aftercare, and help you refine your idea during a consultation. Walk-ins are welcome, but booking ahead ensures you get time with the artist you want.

Your first tattoo should be a positive experience. Take your time, trust the process, and enjoy becoming part of the Wild Ink family.
